SAVANNAH, Ga. - The second-seeded Lander men's tennis team earned third place honors Sunday at the Peach Belt Conference championships when the No. 15 Bearcats defeated fifth-seeded Columbus State, 5-4.
Lander improves to 17-6, while No. 21 CSU drops to 13-11.
Lander won two of three doubles matches then captured wins at Nos. 3, 4, and 6 singles to claim the win.
In doubles, No. 1 Damien Cordesse/Guilherme Fonseca (LU) def. Nemanja Djuric/Luis G-Tolentino, 8-3; No. 2 Guillermo Echevarria/Paul van Rensburg (CSU) def. T.C. Valle/Henrik Willers, 8-2; and No. 3 Carlos Benatzky/Andre Ivarsson (LU) def. Filip Cojbasic/Frank Suarez, 8-6.
In singles, No. 1 Frank Suarez (CSU) def. Guilherme Fonseca, 6-4, 6-2; No. 2 Guillermo Echevarria (CSU) def. Damien Cordesse, 6-1, 6-3; No. 3 Andre Ivarsson (LU) def. Luis G-Tolentino, 6-4, 6-1; No. 4 Juan Manrique (LU) def. Paul van Rensburg, 6-3, 6-2; No. 5 Nemanja Djuric (CSU) def. Timur Kamilov, 6-0, 7-6; and No. 6 Michael Fedoseyev (LU) def. Hernando Ortiz, 6-4, 6-2.
