NEWBERRY - The No. 8 ranked Lander men's tennis team won all three doubles matches and five of six singles to defeat Newberry College, 8-1, Friday afternoon in a non-conference match at the Canon Tennis Courts.
Lander improves to 6-2 overall, while Newberry falls to 1-3.
In singles, No. 1 Guilherme Fonseca (LU) def. Maxim Sukharev, 6-2, 6-4; No. 2 Henrik Willers (LU) def. Daryl Van Vuuren, 6-0, 6-7, 10-8; No. 3 Timur Kamilov (LU) def. Jeremy Smith, 7-5, 6-4; No. 4 Michael Fedoseyev (LU) def. Lucas Mattos, 6-4, 6-2; No. 5 Juan Manrique (LU) def. Felipe Sobrinho, 7-5, 2-6, 10-7; and No. 6 Mikael Jurkovic (NC) def. Carlos Marques, 1-6, 6-2, 10-8.
In doubles, No. 1 Andre Ivarsson/Henrik Willers (LU) def. Jeremy Smith/Daryl Van Vuuren, 8-6; No. 2 Guilherme Fonseca/Damien Cordesse (LU) def. Maxim Sukharev/Lucas Mattos, 8-5; and No. 3 Timur Kamilov/T.C. Valle (LU) def. Felipe Sobrinho/Mikael Jurkovic, 8-3.
