AUGUSTA, Ga.----The Lander women's softball team used a three-hitter by Austin Murray to win their first Peach Belt Conference game of the season Wednesday afternoon when the Bearcats split a doubleheader at Augusta State. Lander is 3-13 overall and 1-3 in the PBC, while Augusta State is 9-1, 1-1
In the first game, Murray (1-5) earned her first victory of the season, striking out two, walking six and allowing just three hits in the complete seven innings.
ASU's Amy Dumas (3-1) took the loss, striking out eight and allowing one earned run on three hits in 6.1 inning pitched.
Lander scored the lone run of the game in the top of the seventh when Lindsey Whitfield's RBI double scored Brianna Huckabee. Huckabee reached first on a walk.
In the second game, Benenhaley (3-0) recorded the victory as she struck out three, walked one and allowed two earned runs on five hits in the complete seven innings.
Lander's Jenna Kellett (1-4) suffered the loss as she struck out six, walked two and allowed three earned runs on 12 hits in 6.2 innings pitched.
Augusta State scored one run each in the first and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead. Lander tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning and ASU came back with the winning run in the seventh.
For Lander, Carrie Hudson went 1-for-3 with one double, one run scored and one RBI, while Daisy Stewart went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
