Lincoln Memorial sweeps Lander softball

GREENWOOD----The Lincoln Memorial University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Lander University Sunday afternoon, winning the first game, 4-0, and the second, 2-1. (Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box)

Lincoln Memorial improves to 7-1 overall, while Lander slips to 1-9.

In the first game, Sara Henn (1-0) earned the victory, striking out three, walking one and allowing three hits in the complete seven innings.

Lander's Nikki Brown (0-2) took the loss as she struck out two, walked one and allowed one earned run on four hits in 6.1 innings.

The Railsplitters' Amanda Wampler sent the second pitch of the game over the right field fence to take a 1-0 lead. LMU added three more runs in the third inning when Alisa Burke and Alicia MacIntyre had RBI singles and Jackie Adams scored on Devin Sponseller's sacrifice fly.

For LMU, Wampler went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, Adams went 2-for-4 with one run scored and MacIntyre went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In the second game, Jessica Locker claimed the win, striking out six, while allowing one earned run on five hits in the complete seven innings.

Lander's Austin Murray suffered the loss, striking out two, walking four and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in 6.1 innings.

LMU took a quick 1-0 lead in the first when Adams reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to third on a fielding error by shortstop Brianna Huckabee and scored on Sponseller's sacrifice fly to left field.

Lander tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning when Natalie Smith doubled to left field and scored on Daisy Stewart's RBI single to short centerfield.

The Railsplitters regained the lead at 2-1 in the fifth when Henn's RBI double scored Sammy Jo Garrett.

For Lander, Smith went 2-for-3 with one double and one run scored and Stewart went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

For LMU, Wampler went 1-for-4 with one triple and Henn went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
