Francis Marion edges Lander in PBC championship game

EVANS, Ga. - The third-seeded Lander men's soccer team forced a double-overtime Sunday night before falling to top-seeded Francis Marion, 1-0, in the championship game of the Peach Belt Conference tournament at Blanchard Woods Park.

Francis Marion improves to 13-4-3 overall, while Lander moves to 12-4-2. Lander's Adam Arthur, Craig Hughes and Jamie Ramm were named to the all-tournament team.

Both teams will find out Monday if they are selected for the NCAA Division II national tournament.

FMU's Willie Hunt headed the game's lone goal at 2:07 into the second overtime off a corner kick by Adrian Sikorski.

Lander outshot the Patriots, 17-10, but FMU led in corner kicks, 12-4.

Patriot goalkeeper Clark Richeson posted eight saves and Lander's Billy Hale had five.
