NEWBERRY - The Lander women's basketball team dropped to 3-2 overall Saturday when Newberry defeated the Lady Bearcats, 83-48, in a non-conference game in Eleazer Arena.
Newberry, which improves to 4-2, held Lander without a field goal for the final 5:49 of the game and outscored the Lady Bearcats, 51-18 in the second half.
The Lady Bearcats were led by Ciara Lyons and Mukia Myrick, who scored 13 and 11 points respectively. Myrick also grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
Laura Marquardt led Newberry wth a game-high 22 points, while Helen McKinney added 19 points and Monica Alexander 18. McKinney also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Lander connected on 14-of-52 field goals for 26.9 percent, including 3-of-13 from the three-point line. Lander made 17-of-21 free throws for 81 percent.
The Lady Indians were 30-of-54 from the floor for 55.6 percent, 10-of-17 from the three-point line for 58.8 percent and 13-of-21 from the free throw line for 61.9 percent.
The loss snaps Lander's three-game streak of scoring 100 points or more.
