FLORENCE - The Lander men's soccer team lost its first Peach Belt Conference game of the season Saturday afternoon when Francis Marion defeated the Bearcats, 3-1, in the regular-season finale for both teams.
FMU improves to 11-4-3 overall and 5-0-1 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 10-3-1, 4-1-0. With the win, Francis Marion claimed the PBC regular-season title and the top seed in next week's tournament, while Lander will be awarded the No. 2 seed.
The Patriots took a 1-0 halftime lead when Willie Hunt headed in a corner kick from Adrian Sikorski at 19:39.
FMU stretched the margin to 2-0 on Juan Rivas' follow up of a missed Ivan Juric shot at 50:25.
Lander cut the margin to 2-1 at 76:19 on Aaron Brittain's 12th goal of the season, a 10-yard shot from in front of the goal which was assisted by K.C. Dunbaker.
Rivas scored the game's final goal at 86:43 on an assist from Sikorski.
FMU outshot the Bearcats, 19-9.
Lander goalkeeper Billy Hale registered 10 saves, while FMU's Clark Richeson had three stops.
