UNC Pembroke beats Lander women's soccer, 3-1

GREENWOOD - Hanna Pirinen, Britney Joiner and Sam Dunn scored goals, leading UNC Pembroke to a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Lander Saturday afternoon.

UNC Pembroke improved to 11-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Peach Belt. The Lady Bearcats fell to 6-4, 2-3.

Pembroke took a 1-0 lead at the 23:46 mark on a goal by Pirinen off Joiner's assist. Joiner chased a long pass to the right of the goal, catching up to the ball just before it went out of bounds. She passed it across the mouth of the goal to Pirinen, who was coming toward the net from the left side. She kicked the ball into the right corner of the net.

The Lady Braves made it 2-0 at 68:25 on Joiner's unassisted goal when she got behind the goalkeeper for a tap-in. Dunn scored Pembroke's third goal on an assist from the left side from Melanie Cobb at 71:05.

Kelley Maupin scored Lander's only goal at 75:35 unassisted, breaking away down the right side and kicking the ball into the left corner past Braves goalkeeper Whitney Beverly.

Pembroke out-shot the Lady Bearcats 13-8. Katherine Baltz had seven saves for Lander while Beverly had four stops for the Lady Braves. Lander had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
