Chiles, Good lead Lady Bearcats past USCA, 83-78

AIKEN, S.C.----The Lander women's basketball team remained atop the Peach Belt Conference standings Wednesday night when the Lady Bearcats defeated USC Aiken, 83-78, in the Convocation Center.

Lander improves to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in the PBC, while USCA drops to 10-5, 4-5.

LaShonda Chiles and Tiara Good scored 18 and 17 points respectively for the Lady Bearcats, while Kianna Smith and Stephanie Ponds netted 14 each and Shannon McKever had 12. McKever grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, Good had seven and Ponds 6. Good also dished off six assists. Chiles made 6-of-16 field goals and was 2-of-7 from the three-point line and 4-of-4 from the foul line.

USCA was paced by Megan Starnes' game-high 20 points. Avonte Williams added 18 points and nine rebounds, Morgan Johnson 13 points and seven rebounds, and Meredith Legg 11 points.

Lander, which led 37-31 at halftime, made 29-of-64 field goals for 45.3 percent, including 4-of-18 three pointers for 22.2 percent. The Lady Bearcats were 21-30 from the free throw line for 70 percent.

The Lady Pacers were 25-of-50 from the field for 50 percent, including 4-of-11 three-point attempts for 36.4 percent. USCA connected on 24-of-31 foul shots for 77.4 percent.
