AMERICUS, Ga.----The No. 16-ranked Lander men's soccer team got back on the winning track Saturday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated Georgia Southwestern, 6-0, in a Peach Belt Conference game.
Lander improves to 6-1-2 overall and 2-1 in the PBC, while the Hurricanes drop to 0-10, 0-2.
Aaron Brittain netted two goals for the Bearcats, while Nick Cooke, Adam Arthur and Ivan Stoykov scored one each.
Cooke scored the Bearcats first goal at 29:03 on an assist from Tyler Davis to give the Bearcats a 1-0 halftime lead. Lander stretched the margin to 2-0 at 51:01 on an own goal, then Arthur made it 3-0 off a corner kick and an assist from Ryan Thorman and Brittain. Brittain's first goal was on a double assist from Davison and Davis at 57:38 and his second off a corner kick from Davison at 72:17. Stoykov made Lander's final goal at 78:27 on an assist from Andres Cattla.
Lander outshot the Hurricanes, 24-0, and led in corner kicks, 11-1.
Lander goalkeeper Garrett Daum posted his seventh shutout of the season, while Georgia Southwestern's John Scharnikow was credited with nine saves.
