GREENWOOD----Jannica Finnberg and Jessica Skowron teamed up twice for scores Wednesday night to lead the Lander women's soccer team to a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia College & State University.
Lander, which is off to its best start in the 10-year history of its program, improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the PBC, while GCSU drops to 5-2, 1-1.
GCSU took a 1-0 lead at 29:24 when Hayley Ferrell headed the ball to the back of the net on a corner kick from Beth Coughlin.
Skowron tied the game at 1-1 at 32:29 when she headed in a Finnberg corner kick.
Skowron scored the game-winner at 48:07 off another Finnberg corner kick.
Lander goalkeeper Rachael Hine and GCSU's Kristen Moore both had four saves.
GCSU outshot Lander, 14-11, while Lander led in corner kicks, 4-3.
The victory is the Lady Bearcats' first over GCSU in their four-year rivalry. The two teams have tied twice and GCSU scored a 5-0 win last season.
