GREENWOOD – Lander freshman Jessica Skowron scored 3:27 into the first overtime to give the Lady Bearcats a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over USC Aiken Wednesday.
Lander (4-1, 1-0 Peach Belt) dominated the match, out-shooting USC Aiken 16-1. The Lady Pacers fell to 2-6, 0-1.
After the teams ended regulation tied at 1, Jannica Finnberg set up the game-winning goal with a long cross that found Skowron on the left side of the net. Skowron finished the play for her second goal of the season.
The Lady Bearcats out-shot Aiken 7-0 in the first half, but there was a scoreless tie at halftime. The Lady Pacers grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 62:24 mark on an own goal credited to Aiken freshman Krista Abernathy. A Lander player accidentally backed the ball into the goal.
Lander's Finnberg scored an unassisted goal at the 70:34 mark to tie the match, kicking the ball into the upper right side of the net. It was the junior's fifth goal of the season. Although the Lady Bearcats had a 14-1 edge in shots in regulation, the game went into overtime.
Rachael Hine had one save in goal for Lander while Nicole Westphal had seven stops for Aiken.
