Lander women’s tennis falls to UNCP at PBC tournament

AUGUSTA, Ga.----The first-year Lander women's tennis program ended its season Saturday night when it lost to UNC Pembroke, 5-2, in the Peach Belt Conference tournament at the Newman Tennis Center.

UNC Pembroke improved to 13-11 and Lander dropped to 6-14.

UNCP won two of three doubles matches and singles matches at the Nos. 2, 3 and 5 positions.

In doubles, No. 1 Stacey Wood/Natalie Dies (UNCP) def. Vuokka Vahatalo/Anni Pajunen, 8-5; No. 2 Ivana Music/Gabriela Vrana (UNCP) def. Kristinanne Emmanouil/Fernanda Oliveira, 8-4; and No. 3 Nicholi Marsh/Ana Luiza Zaia (LU) def. Victoria Willis/Jennifer McPherson, 8-1.

In singles, No. 2 Dies (UNCP) def. Vahatalo, 6-1, 6-2; No. 3 Music (UNCP) def. Pajunen, 6-1, 6-3; No. 5 Willis (UNCP) def. Marsh, 6-4, 6-0; and No. 6 Zaia (LU) def. McPherson, 6-0, 6-0.
