GREENWOOD----The Lander baseball team extended its winning streak to four Wednesday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated St. Andrews Presbyterian College, 10-0, in a non-conference game at Legion Field.
Lander improves to 8-12 overall, while St. Andrews drops to 9-13.
Daniel Hinchberger (2-2) recorded the win in two pre-determined innings of work as he struck out five, and allowed just one hit. Evan Christian pitched five innings and struck out three and allowed two hits. St. Andrews was held to three hits.
St. Andrews' Mark Dlugokienski (0-2) took the loss as he struck out two, walked one and allowed five runs on seven hits in three innings pitched.
Malcolm McLeod gave Lander a 2-0 lead in the first inning when he smacked a two-run home run over the left field fence which scored Danny Morgan.
In the fourth inning, Lander stretched the lead to 5-0. McLeod singled to center field, advanced to second on Gabe McCann's bunt single, to third on T.J. Guinan's bunt single and scored on Justin King's single to right center field (3-0). McCann then scored on Adam Young's walk (4-0) and King scored on Jonathan Myers' fielder's choice (5-0).
The Bearcats added three more runs in the fifth inning. Jesse Barbaro singled to right field, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored (6-0) on McLeod's triple down the right field line. McLeod then scored (7-0) on McCann's RBI single. McCann advanced to third on Guinan's single to right field and scored (8-0) on King's sacrifice fly.
The Bearcats scored their final two runs in the eighth inning. Brendan O'Connor singled to left field, then advanced to third on Myers' single and a fielding error by the center fielder. O'Connor scored (9-0) on Hunter Ruoss' RBI single to center field and Myers scored (10-0) on Barbaro's sacrifice fly.
For Lander, McLeod went 3-for-5 with one home run, one triple, three runs scored and three RBI; Morgan went 1-for-4 with one double and one run scored; and Barbaro went 3-for-4 with one double, one run and one RBI. McCann went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI and Guinan batted 2-for-4.
For St. Andrews, Charles Weber went 1-for-3 with one double.
