VALDOSTA, Ga.---The Lander softball team dropped to 10-16 overall Sunday when the Bearcats lost a non-conference doubleheader to Valdosta State University, 6-1 and 7-3. (Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box)
In the first game, Kristen Lindsey earned the victory, striking out 14 and allowing one earned run on four hits in seven innings pitched. Lander's Ashlea Burdette (4-7) took the loss as she struck out four, walked five and allowed six earned runs on seven hits in six innings pitched.
For Lander, Daisy Stewart went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
In the second game, VSU's Ashley Hill recorded the win, as she struck out seven, walked one and allowed three earned runs on six hits. LU's Austin Murray was the losing pitcher, striking out four, walking 12 and allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits in six innings of work.
For Lander, Natalie Smith (1-for-4) and Stewart (2-for-3) both homered. Brittany Wallace went 1-for-1 with one double.
