Presbyterian baseball defeats Lander, 6-2

GREENWOOD----Presbyterian College's Kyle Craven went 4-for-5 with three RBI Tuesday night to lead the Blue Hose baseball team to a 6-2 non-conference victory over Lander at Legion Field.
Presbyterian improves to 14-26 overall, while Lander slips to 11-23.

PC's Zach Snipes (2-0) earned the victory as he struck out three, walked one and allowed one earned run on five hits in seven complete innings. Lander's Derek Wilson (0-8) suffered the loss with three strikeouts, two walks and five earned runs on five hits in four innings pitched.

Presbyterian struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Kyle Craven doubled then scored on Casey Carlson's RBI triple. Carlson then scored on a throwing error by Lander first baseman Jesse Barbaro.

Lander cut the margin to 2-1 in the second as Hunter Ruoss reached on a throwing error by shortstop Robert Anders, advanced to second on Jared Altus' single to centerfield, and scored on Brendan O'Connor's single to right field.

PC stretched its lead to 4-1 in the third. Jesse Harmon singled, advanced to second on Cory Lyda's walk and to third on Russell Robinson's sacrifice bunt. Harmon and Lyda then crossed the plate on Craven's double to right field.

In the fourth, PC's Andrew Cockerham walked then advanced to third on Gabe McCann's fielding error in left field. With runners on second and third, Cockerham scored on a groundout to take a 5-1 lead.

The Bearcats cut it to 5-2 in the fourth when Eric Barrett walked, advanced on a wild pitch, then scored on T.J. Guinan's RBI single to left field.

The Blue Hose scored their final run in the ninth when Lyda was hit by a pitch, stole second, then scored on Craven's RBI single to left field.

For Lander, Barbaro went 1-for-4 with one double, while Guinan went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

For Presbyterian, Carlson went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run scored and one RBI and Harmon went 2-for-5 with one run scored.
