Mike Fitschen Joins Baseball Coaching Staff

GREENWOOD – Lander head baseball coach Jason Burke has announced that alumnus Mike Fitschen has joined the coaching staff ahead of the 2026 season. Fitschen will serve as the Bearcats' offensive coordinator while also working with the team's catchers and baserunners.

Fitschen returns to Greenwood after a four-year stint at Mars Hill, where he oversaw the offense and recruiting efforts for the Lions. During his tenure, he coached five All-South Atlantic Conference players, including Zach Weaver, who set the program record with 49 career home runs. Fitschen also assisted with infield, outfield, and catcher defense, helping Mars Hill set a school record for fielding percentage in 2022 and producing two SAC All-Defensive Team selections.

"I am thrilled to have Mike back here at Lander," said Burke. "He had a successful playing career in Greenwood and knows what a championship culture looks like, having been part of our 2016 Southeast Region championship team. He has gained valuable experience and knowledge at Mars Hill with Coach Zach Honeycutt, and he will be a major addition to our staff in several ways."

A member of Lander's 2016 Southeast Region championship team, Fitschen appeared in 180 games over his five-year career, starting 165 primarily as a catcher and designated hitter, while also logging time at first base. The Margate, Fla., native collected 187 hits, scored 101 runs, and drove in 98 while finishing with a .982 career fielding percentage.
