Augusta State softball takes two from Lander

GREENWOOD----Anna Tedder's RBI triple in the 11th inning proved to be the game-winning hit which propelled the Augusta State softball team to a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep Thursday night at Lander's Doug Spears Field. The Lady Jaguars won the first game, 6-2, and the second, 3-1, in 11 innings. (Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box)

Augusta State improves to 17-11 overall and 4-4 in the PBC, while Lander drops to 11-21, 4-6.

Tedder's triple broke a 1-1 tie and plated Leann Barber. Tedder later scored on a throwing error for the final score.

ASU took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Paige Phillips' solo home run. Lander tied the game, 1-1, in the fourth inning when Daisy Stewart's RBI double scored Melissa Ryals.

Amy Dumas (9-5) earned the victory in 2.1 scoreless innings of work as she struck out five and walked two. Lander's Austin Murray (4-11) recorded the loss as she struck out nine, walked 11 and allowed two earned runs on four hits in the complete 11 innings.

For Lander, Stewart went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI, while Natalie Smith went 3-for-5 and Burdette 2-for-4.

For ASU, Phillips went 1-for-2 with one home run, Tedder went 2-for-6 with one triple, one run scored and one RBI and Katie Reese went 1-for-3 with one double.

In the first game, The Lady Jags took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Anna Cheely's RBI single plated Phillips. Lander came back in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead on Ryals' two-run homer.

ASU tied the game in the second at 2-2 on Tedder's RBI double.

Augusta State broke away with three runs in the fifth inning. Christina Morrison, who was pinch running for Phillips, scored on a passed ball, then Brooke Southerland's RBI single scored Jessie Sadlowsky and Cheely.

Dumas earned the win as she struck out 10, walked five and allowed two earned runs on four hits in the complete seven innings. Lander's Ashlea Burdette took the loss as she struck out two, walked three and allowed four earned runs on nine hits in five innings pitched.

For Lander, Ryals went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

For Augusta, Tedder (1-for-3, one double, one RBI), Ashley Roberts (2-for-3) and Amy Dumas (1-for-4, one RBI) all doubled, while Cheely went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
