PEMBROKE, N.C.----The Lander women's tennis team won its first Peach Belt Conference match of the season Saturday when it defeated UNC Pembroke, 7-2.

Lander improves to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the PBC, while UNCP drops to 4-3, 0-3.

In singles, No. 1 Fernanda Oliveira (LU) def. Stacey Wood, 7-5, 6-4; No. 2 Vuokko Vahatalo (LU) def. Natalie Dies, 6-4, 6-3; No. 3 Ivana Music (UNCP) def Anni Pajunen, 6-2, 6-1; No. 4 Gabriela Vrana (UNCP) def. Ana Luiza Zaia, 6-1, 6-3; No. 5 Kristinanne Emmanouil (LU) def. Melissa Locklear, 6-3, 6-2; and No. 6 Nicholi Marsh (LU) def. Jennifer McPherson, 8-0.

In doubles, No. 1 Vahatalo/Pajunen (LU) def. Wood/Music, 8-6; No. 2 Emmanouil/Oliveira (LU) def. Dies/Vrana, 8-3; and No. 3 Marsh/Zaia (LU) def. Locklear/McPherson, 8-1.
