GREENWOOD----The first-year Lander women's tennis team won its first match of the season Saturday when the Lady Bearcats defeated Coker College, 6-3, in a non-conference match at the Joe Cabri Courts.

Lander improves to 1-4 overall.

Lander won only one doubles match, but came back to win five of six singles matches.

In singles, No. 1 Fernanda Oliveira (LU) def. Andrea Santos, 6-4, 1-0 (ret.); No. 2 Vuokko Vahatalo (LU) def. Rachel Lamar, 6-3, 6-1; No. 3 Anni Pajunen (LU) def. Cassidy Spencer, 6-3, 6-4; No. 4 Ana Luiza Zaia (LU) def. Ashley Pace; No. 5 Lindsay Crighton (CC) def. Kristinanne Emmanouil, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8; and No. 6 Nicholi Marsh (LU) def. Ashley Schaum, 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles, No. 1 Santos/Pace (CC) def. Vahatalo/Pajunen, 9-7; No. 2 Spencer/Crighton (CC) def. Zaia/Marsh, 8-6; and No. 3 Emmanouil/Oliveira (LU) def. Pace/Schaum, 8-1.
