Lander improves to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the PBC, while GSW drops to 4-8, 0-2.
In the first game, Ashlea Burdette (2-2) earned the victory, striking out four, walking two and allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits in the complete seven innings. Amanda Howett (1-1) took the loss as she struck out three, walked two and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits in five innings.
For Lander, Kyndall Freer collected her first career home run and went 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Natalie Smith went 1-for-3 with one double and one run scored.
For Georgia Southwestern, Amber Whittle went 2-for-4 with one double, one run scored and one RBI and Shea Weaver went 1-for-3 with one double.
Lander scored one run each in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead. The Hurricanes scored one run each in the sixth and seventh innings.
In the second game, Austin Murray (3-3) picked up the victory, striking out nine, walking seven and allowing four earned runs on six hits in the complete seven innings. Emily Oglesby (2-4) took the loss, striking out two, walking two and allowing three runs (none earned) on three hits in 2.2 innings.
For Lander, Smith went 1-for-4 with one double and one run scored and Stewart went 4-for-5 with one double, one run scored and two RBI.
For GSW, Tamra Brown went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
