AMERICUS, Ga.----The Lander men's basketball team scored its first Peach Belt Conference win of the season Saturday afternoon when Dane Sparrow scored 15 points to lead the Bearcats past Georgia Southwestern, 68-62.
Lander improves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the PBC, while GSW drops to 4-2, 1-1.
Sparrow connected on 4-of-6 three-point shots and was 3-of-4 from the free throw line to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Brenton Harris, who led Lander with eight rebounds, chipped in 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting, while Houston Wright netted 11.
GSW was led by Anthony Sargent and Aaron Wyatt, who scored 19 and 16 points respectively. Frederick Jackson led the Hurricanes in rebounds with seven.
Lander made 20-of-43 field goals for 46.5 percent, 10-of-24 threes for 41.7 percent and 10-of-17 free throws for 52.9 percent.
GSW was 22-of-58 from the field for 37.9 percent, 6-of-21 from the three-point line for 28.6 percent and 12-of-27 from the free throw line for 44.4 percent.
Lander outrebounded the Hurricanes, 36-32.
