PEMBROKE, N.C.----The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team placed three players in double figures and connected on 24-of-26 free throws Wednesday night to lead the Braves to a 64-49 Peach Belt Conference victory over Lander in the English E. Jones Center.
In the PBC opener for both teams, UNCP improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Lander slips to 2-3, 0-1.
Houston Wright led the Lander attack with 14 points and five rebounds, while Ford "Scooter" Lawrence netted 10 points. Dane Sparrow, Curtis Milner and Justin Mann also had five rebounds each.
Jonathan Hart and Cortez Brown led the Braves with 14 and 13 points respectively, while Sammie Garner scored 10. Jarrell Hunter grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for UNCP and Demarcus Lyday had five assists.
UNCP, which led 37-27 at halftime, made 16-of-43 field goals for 37.2 percent, 8-of-24 three pointers for 33.3 percent and 92.3 percent from the foul line.
Lander was 17-of-60 from the field for 28.3 percent, 5-of-33 from the three-point line for 15.2 percent and 10-of-20 from the foul line for 50 percent. The Braves outrebounded Lander, 41-37.
