DUE WEST, S.C. – The Lander men's basketball team held Erskine College to single-digit scoring in the first half and went on to defeat the Flying Fleet, 62-29, Monday night in a non-conference contest in Belk Arena. The 33-point victory was the biggest margin of victory over Erskine in the 39-year rivalry between the teams.
Lander improved its record to 10-7, while Erskine fell to 6-9.
The Bearcats took a 35-9 halftime lead as Erskine connected on only 3-of-23 shots, including 0-of-11 from behind the three-point line. The visitors opened the second half with a 15-2 run for their biggest lead at 50-11 and coasted to the victory.
Jarred Jackson led Lander with a game-high 21 points, making 6-of-9 field goals, including 5-of-6 three pointers. Jackson was also 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Lander shot only 39.7 percent but completely dominated the boards, 51-23, including 15-1 on the offensive glass.
T.J. Taylor was Erskine's only player in double figures with 10.
Lander avenged an earlier 65-63 loss to Erskine in Greenwood in which center Craig Williams hit the winning basket as time ran out.
The Fleet connected on 23.4 percent of their field goals, including 3-of-28 from the three-point line.
