FLORENCE, S.C.----The Lander men's basketball team shot 50 percent from the field Tuesday night and four players scored in double figures as the Bearcats defeated Francis Marion, 78-56, in a Peach Belt Conference contest at the Smith University Center.
Lander improves to 6-5 overall and 1-0 in the PBC, while FMU drops to 3-7, 0-1.
Jarred Jackson scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Lander attack, connecting on 7-of-14 field goals, including 5-of-10 three pointers. Jackson also netted 3-of-5 free throws and had five assists. Dane Sparrow scored 17 points, while Emanuel Hodrea added 14 points and seven rebounds and Curtis Milner scored 14. Michael Griffin led Lander with five assists and four steals.
Raymond Dorsey led FMU with 10 points and seven rebounds. Rodrick Burton and Larnelle Peterson scored nine points each. Kevin Ashford led the Patriots in rebounds with eight.
Lander, which led 44-21 at halftime, connected on 27-of-54 field goals for 50 percent, 9-of-25 three pointers for 36 percent and 15-of-21 free throws for 71.4 percent.
Francis Marion made 20-of-55 field goals for 36.4 percent, 6-of-22 three pointers for 27.3 percent and 10-of-16 free throws for 62.5 percent.
Lander outrebounded the Patriots, 40-30.
Lander will host Georgia College & State University at 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, in a PBC contest.
