DAHLONEGA, Ga.----The Lander men's basketball team built an early lead, and pulled away from North Georgia College & State University for a 92-63 Peach Belt Conference victory at Memorial Hall Wednesday night.
Lander improves to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the PBC, while North Georgia drops to 4-10, 0-3.
The Bearcats used a barrage of three-pointers (10-of-17) to build a 49-33 lead in the first half, and coupled that with a 56.7 percent shooting second half from the floor for the victory.
Lander shot 61 (36-for-59) percent from the floor, while they hit an incredible 60.9 (14-for-23) percent from behind the arc. They were held to 66.7 (6-for-9) percent from the free throw line.
Meanwhile, North Georgia shot 39.7 (23-for-58) percent from the floor, and just 16.7 (3-for-18) percent from behind the three-point line. They also shot 70 (14-for-20) percent from the free throw line.
Zach Evans led four Lander players in double figures with 20 points off the bench, including hitting 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Dane Sparrow added 19, Michael Griffin 14 and Curtis Milner 13 in
the victory.
Anthony Rowe led North Georgia with 14 points and six rebounds, while Jay Anderson added 12 off the bench.
This was the third game the Saints played without leading scorer Dustin David and fourth-leading scorer Buzz Wehunt, who were injured in a car accident over the holidays. Both were on the bench for the first time since the incident.
