BANNER ELK, N.C.----The No. 4-ranked Lander men's soccer team defeated No. 13 Lees-McRae, 5-1, in a non-conference game Thursday night at Tates Field.
Lander improves to 4-0 overall, while Lees-McRae dropped to 3-1-1.
Zach Ducey gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on an unassisted goal. The Bearcats stretched the lead to 2-0 when Adam Arthur, this week's Peach Belt Player of the Week, scored in the 56th minute. Nick Cooke made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute by firing the ball through the hands of LMC goal keeper Dylan Lawrence.
Lees-McRae cut the margin to 3-1 in the 84th minute on a free kick by Matt Lacey.
Cooke scored his second goal of the night at 88:00 to make it 4-1, while the Bearcats' Ossi Nieminen found the back of the goal in the final minute.
Lander goalkeeper Garrett Daum recorded eight saves, while LMC's Lawrence had six.
Lander outshot LMC, 17-14, but the Bobcats led in corner kicks, 4-3.
