GREENWOOD----The Lander women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season Wednesday night when Wingate University downed the Lady Bearcats, 3-0, in a non-conference contest.
Wingate improves to 5-1 overall, while Lander slips to 2-1.
After a scoreless first half, Madi Welch gave Wingate a 1-0 lead on an assist from Jordan Mayer at 56:36. The Lady Bulldogs extended the lead to 2-0 at 63:18 when Alexis Randazzo found the back of the net on an assist from Welch. Christina Acosta scored Wingate's final goal at 74:27 on an assist from Megan Smith.
Lander goalkeeper Rachael Hine recorded three saves, while Wingate's Kathryn Smith had one.
Wingate outshot Lander, 14-4, and led in corner kicks, 7-0.
