MORROW, Ga.----The Lander women's volleyball team dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the Peach Belt Conference Saturday when the Lady Bearcats lost to Clayton State, 4-0.
Clayton State improves to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the PBC.
The Lakers outshot Lander, 33-3, however, a strong showing by Bearcat goalkeeper Rachel Hine kept the game close.
After numerous scoring opportunities, Clayton State grabbed a 1-0 halftime lead when Yasmine Sunbul scored in front of the goal off a cross by Nkese Udoh in 29th minute.
However, Clayton State broke the game open with three second half goals. Antoinette Anounga gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute with a breakaway goal off an assist by Jennifer Winslett. Sunbul then scored her second goal off a ricochet shot by Olaitan Yusuf in the 65th minute, and Udoh finished the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 67th minute.
Clayton State goalkeeper Lindsay Schmidt recorded her second shutout of the season with one save, while Hine recorded a whopping 14 saves for Lander.
