Mars Hill triumphs over Lady Bearcats soccer, 4-1

MARS HILL, N.C.----The Mars Hill women's soccer team defeated Lander Thursday night in Meares Stadium, 4-1. The Lions improved to 7-2 on the season while the Bearcats fell to 2-5 on the year. Jasmine Riley recorded three goals and had an assist in the victory.

Riley opened the scoring for MHC, 46 seconds into the match on a breakaway lead pass from Tabatha Woodson. Riley Dorsey gave the Lions a 2-0 advantage at the 28:29 mark after she scored on a cross from Riley.

Riley scored her second goal of the contest with 36 seconds left in the first then added her final goal at 53:18 mark off a rebound.

Aisha Reed put Lander on the board at the 74:48 mark. Reed scored off her own rebound.

MHC out shot the Bearcats, 25-to-17. Claudia Cala played the first 65:53 in goal for MHC and made nine saves. Shannon Higgins played the final 24:07 in the net for MHS and made three stops. Rachael Hines played the entire match as the Bearcats' keeper and made 11 saves.
