FLORENCE, S.C.----The Lander softball team has improved its record to 15-16-1 this weekend by winning four of its five games at the Francis Marion Invitational. The tournament concludes on Sunday.
On Friday, Lander collected a pair of wins when the Bearcats defeated Belmont-Abbey, 5-1, and St. Andrews, 1-0. On Saturday, Lander lost its first game to Wingate, 8-1, then defeated Goldy-Beacom, 11-1. On Sunday, Lander concluded the tournament by defeating Anderson College, 8-1
Against Belmont Abbey, Keri Davis and Amber Yarborough both hit home runs, while Colleen Leggieri went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Against St. Andrews, Ashlea Burdett and Austin Murray combined for a two-hitter, while Lib Harris went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Against Wingate, Melissa Ryals and Corrie Bessinger both went 2-for-3.
Against Goldy-Beacom, Bessinger and Davis both went 3-for-4 with a double, while Harris went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI and Rachelle Lawrence went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Against Anderson, Leggieri went 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI and Davis went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
