AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from Lander Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field. (Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box)
ASU sophomore righthander Amy Dumas (5-2) blanked the Bearcats on two hits, striking out eight and walking only one batter. Freshman Jenni Massingale got the last two outs for ASU. Ashlea Burdette (7-5) took the loss for Lander, yielding eight hits and five earned runs. She struck out three and walked five.
Junior first baseman Paige Phillips went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs. Dumas had a pair of RBI as well. Melissa Ryals and Corrie Bessinger had the only hits for the Bearcats.
In game two, senior righthander Christine Gisler improved her record to 3-1 on the season with five innings of solid work. She gave up only two hits, striking out two and walking just one batter. Sophomore Jacklyn Benenhaley turned in two innings of one-hit relief, registering a lone strikeout.
Jenna Kellett dropped to 2-5 on the season with the loss. She was touched for six hits and four earned runs in 6.0 innings. She tallied a pair of strikeouts against four walks.
Leigh Robbins and Jennifer Tomlinson each went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI for the Jags. Courtney Smith scored two runs for ASU.
With the sweep, the Jaguars improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in Peach Belt Conference play.
The losses dropped Lander to 9-13-1 overall and 1-5 in the PBC
