Lady Bearcats Soccer Falls to Georgia Southwestern, 2-1

GREENWOOD – Freshman Elizabeth Keller scored two goals, lifting Georgia Southwestern to a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Lander Saturday afternoon.

Georgia Southwestern improved to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the Peach Belt despite being out-shot 27-10. Lander fell to 3-9 overall and 0-6 in the PBC.

Lander's only goal came with 18:21 left in the match when senior midfielder Christian Wade nailed a penalty kick. She booted the ball to goalkeeper Trina Sorenson's right to pull the Lady Bearcats within 2-1. They would have more scoring opportunities but failed to find the back of the net.

Keller gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead with 3:44 left in the first half on a breakaway. She came around Lady Bearcats goalkeeper Rachael Hine to the right post and tapped the ball into the back of the net. Junior Sabina Nell got the assist.

Keller scored again at the 66:07 mark off another assist from Nell. Keller broke away and shot from about 30 yards out. The high-arcing ball got over Hine's head and into the net.

Sorenson had 15 saves for Georgia Southwestern while Hine had two for Lander. The Lady Bearcats had a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
