MARS HILL, NC----The Lander volleyball team improved to 19-12 Tuesday night when the Bearcats defeated Mars Hill College, 3-0, in a non-conference game at Stanford Arena. Game scores were 30-23, 30-26 and 30-23.

MHC falls to 11-18 overall.

Kay Stewart and Andrea Griffin led the Bearcats with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Stewart added eight blocks. Jennifer (JJ) Edwards supplied her teammates with 40 assists in the win. Melissa Trippany led the defense with 16 digs. Edwards and Melissa Hedberg recorded two service aces each.

Rebekka Brown had 16 kills followed by Jessica Britt with 37 assists to lead MHC. Tiffany Oreka tallied 16 digs in the loss. Brown added four blocks.

Lander will host USC Aiken at 7 p.m. Friday and Augusta State at 3 p.m. Saturday.
