AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State men's basketball team outscored Lander, 40-24, in the second half Saturday night to earn a 66-60 Peach Belt Conference victory in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
ASU improve to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in Peach Belt Conference play, while the Bearcats drop to 3-9 and 0-5 in league action.
A Karim Telfer three-pointer with 4:42 to play pulled the Jags even at 56-all, the first tie in the game since 9-9. Dean Brebner hit four free throws, then Larry Diamond scored on a layup and Jason Mills added a free throw. The Bearcats' J.T. Greene hit a trey to close their deficit to four with :36 remaining, only to have Telfer hit three of four free throws in the final 30 seconds to secure the win. ASU trailed 47-36 with 12:56 remaining before closing the game on a 30-13 run.
Senior forward Dean Brebner paced five Jags in double figures with a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Telfer, Mills and Matt Scott added 11 and Tyrekus Bowman chipped in 10 points.
Greene led Lander with 15 points, with Jarred Jackson and Michael Griffin posting 13 and 10 points, respectively.
