GREENWOOD----Melissa Devore scored a game-high 22 points Tuesday afternoon to lead the Limestone College women's basketball team to a 71-60 non-conference victory over Lander University in Horne Arena.
Limestone improves to 4-5 overall, while Lander drops to 3-5.
Devore connected on 9-of-17 field goals, including 2-of-5 three-point attempts, and also made 2-of-2 free throws. Monica Adams added a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Tiffany Jones had 13 points and Jodeana Pirtle 11.
Tara Nyikavaranda recorded a double-double for Lander with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Lashaundra Dubose scored 15 points and Shatora Irby 12.
Limestone, which led at halftime, 36-21, connected on 28-of-60 field goals for 46.7 percent, while Lander only made 22-of-64 for 34.4 percent. Limestone was 8-of-12 from the free throw line for 66.7 percent. Lander made 13-of-21 free throws for 61.9 percent.
Limestone jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead at 12:24 in the first half, but Lander closed the gap to five points at 16-11 on a Linlei Ward basket at 10:28. Limestone then went on a 20-4 run to post its largest lead at 21 points (36-15) with 1:35 remaining in the half. Limestone connected on 15-of-33 field goals in the first half for 45.5 percent, while Lander shot only 27.8 percent on 10-of-36 attempts.
The Lady Bearcats battled back early in the second half, when they scored three straight baskets, including a Dubose three-point shot, to cut the margin to 36-28.
Limestone's biggest lead in the second half was 17 points at 50-33 with 11:55 left in the game. Lander cut the margin to nine points on six occasions.
