PEMBROKE, N.C.----The University of North Carolina at Pembroke blanked Lander 2-0 in the first round of the Peach Belt Women's Soccer Tournament Tuesday night thanks to goals by Melanie Cobb and Kelly Jones.
With the win, the No. 4-seeded Braves improve to 13-5-1, while the No. 5 Bearcats saw its season end with a 6-9-3 overall record and a 3-2-3 mark in league play.
UNCP got on the board at the 29:55 mark in the first half thanks to Nina Ratzkowski who found Cobb for the games' first goal. Jones then sealed the win in the 81st minute with a netter off a Jamie Clarke corner kick.
The Braves out shot Lander 19-5.
UNCP goalkeeper Hillary Helms had two saves, while Lander's Rachael Hine had nine.
