Columbus State edges past Lander women’s soccer

COLUMBUS, Ga.----Columbus State University locked up a share of the Peach Belt Conference women's soccer regular-season championship Saturday with a 3-0 win over Lander University.

The two teams fought to a scoreless tie in the first half despite the fact that CSU out-shot the visitors 8-1. Bearcat goalkeeper Rachael Hine posted four saves in the half to keep the Lady Cougars scoreless. Lander's only shot of the half saile wide.

CSU finally broke the ice in the 54th minute. Freshman Kellie Myles fed a perfect cross into the box and forward Kassy Boivin sent a blistering header past Hine for a 1-0 lead at the 53:12 mark. CSU added its second goal a short time later as Hannah Ospina fed Lindsey Morgan at the top of the box and she hammered the long shot into the right upper corner of the net for a 2-0 lead at the 64:38 mark. The final goal of the flurry came just 37 seconds later as Myles took a pass from Katherine Atwater and stuck it into the right side of the net for a 3-0 lead.

Lander (6-8-3) had its best scoring opportunity as Stacey Copeland's rocket from around 35 yards struck the post at the 65:57 mark. For the game, CSU held a 12-2 advantage in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

For Lander, Hine recorded four saves on the day. CSU goalkeeper Monica Sanchez, playing the full 90 minutes for the first time in 11 games, recorded her second shutout of the season and did not record a save.
