Lander, Georgia College settle for tie in women’s soccer

GREENWOOD – Georgia College and State University scored two goals in the final 10:21 of regulation to force a 2-2 with Lander in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday.

The Bearcats are 5-7-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College is 8-3-1, 3-1-1.

Lander scored both its goals off Elise Goldy corner kicks. Senior midfielder Nicole Bulinksy opened the scoring at the 31:30 mark with a header off junior midfielder Goldy's corner kick to the far post. The score remained 1-0 into halftime.

The Bearcats withstood Georgia College scoring opportunities early in the second half, then took a 2-0 lead at 77:21 when freshman midfielder Stacey Copeland tapped the ball in during a scramble off another Goldy corner kick.

Freshman forward Hayley Ferrell scored Georgia College's first goal at 79:39 off Erin Krueger's assists.

Junior forward Meredith Moran tied it with 8:04 left in regulation, nailing a penalty kick to Bearcats goalkeeper Rachael Hine's left. The penalty kick was called due to a Lander handball in the box.

The two teams battled through two 10-minute overtimes without scoring a goal.

Each team had 13 shots on goals. Georgia College had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Bobcats goalkeeper Michelle Parr had seven saves while Hine had three stops.
