Hills’ First Career Hat Trick Leads Lander to Bounceback Win Over USCA

GREENWOOD - It took Angele Hills just 47 minutes and 41 seconds to net a hat trick, the first for a Bearcat since 2023, as the Lander women's soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 4-1 win over the USC Aiken Pacers Wednesday evening at Van Taylor Stadium.

Hills completed the first hat trick since Emma Sexton on Sept. 3, 2023, against Limestone with a beautiful cross-goal shot into the upper left corner for Lander's fourth and final goal of the game.

The redshirt sophomore needed just over 13 minutes to record a brace, breaking the ice on a spin move and shot that just trickled past the Pacer goalkeeper to open the scoring in the third minute.

Lander nearly doubled the lead less than two minutes later when the Bearcats were awarded a penalty kick, but Paige Bailey's shot was saved to keep the lead at one goal.

Hills scored her second goal of the game in the 14th minute off a failed USC Aiken clearance, depositing the ball into the lower left corner to double the Bearcats' lead.

The Pacers cut the lead in half in the 30th minute with a counterattack goal, but just two minutes later, a Nicolly Oh cross was rocketed into the top of the goal by Evelyn Wright to restore the two-goal advantage heading into halftime.

Hills then added the final goal of the game in the 48th minute to cap the scoring.

Leah Hayes Coen made two second-half saves to keep Lander in front as the Bearcats outshot the Pacers 16-6 in the contest.

The Bearcats will have Saturday off before returning home to face No. 14 Columbus State on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m.
