GREENWOOD – Senior Day was the theme of the afternoon at
Jeff May Complex on the campus of Lander University Saturday, and among the honorees were six players and a team manager from the Women's Lacrosse team that thoroughly beat Montevallo 19-2 in Gulf South Conference action.
Zoe Cotheran,
Jenna Paolozzi,
Kaia Morey,
Curran Penot,
Calloway Umstead,
Ella Benson and
Brooke Yonce were recognized in a pregame ceremony.
Cotheran played the entire game in goal for the Bearcats (6-7, 2-1 GSC) and made six saves for a .750 save percentage en route to her fourth win of the season.
Benson recorded a hat-trick as part of her best game this year against the Falcons (3-10, 1-2 GSC). The Calgary, Alberta, native did it on just four shots while also collecting a pair of draw controls, caused turnovers and ground balls in a well-rounded performance.
Morey caused two turnovers while having her way with six draw controls to lead all players; Lander corralled 18 of 21 draws today.
Sharing some of the spotlight with her senior teammates was the freshman
Morgan Hill. She notched five goals, two caused turnovers and two ground balls and kept the team-lead with her 28th goal by day's end. It was her second five-goal game of the season and sixth hat-trick.
Kylie Fragala is hot on Hill's heels for some of that notoriety. Fragala scored four times versus UM, the third time this season she's had at least that many. It marked her fifth hat-trick as she reached 26 goals.
Caroline Nicholson added her third hat-trick of 2026 on a four-point day. Alongside Nicholson in the four-point category was
Sophie Warren with one goal and three assists.
Freshman
Kara Lindsey also provided a spark for the Bearcats. She grabbed her first collegiate point when she assisted Benson during the third quarter before an even bigger moment came with two minutes left in the fourth – her first career goal.
The Bearcats held leads of 5-1 and 10-2 after the first and second quarters. They blanked the Falcons 9-0 in the second half while posting the final 12 goals of the game.
LU was a perfect 6 of 6 on free-positions.
Lander's next opponent is Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday, April 11 in an 11 a.m. start at Van Taylor Stadium. The Blue and Gold topped UAH both in the regular season (13-12) and GSC Tournament (12-8) a season ago.
