Pugh Earns Third PBC Player of the Week Honor of Season

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Peach Belt Conference officials announced Monday that Lander men's tennis standout Harry Pugh has been named the conference's Player of the Week following an impressive stretch of matches against nationally ranked competition.

The honor marks Pugh's third Player of the Week selection this season and the fourth of his career.

Pugh, ranked No. 21 nationally in singles, delivered a pair of marquee victories at the top of the lineup. He rallied past No. 33 Aniss Rafiq of Flagler College, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2, before earning a statement win over No. 4 Pedro Liborio of University of North Georgia, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0, in Peach Belt Conference play.

In doubles action, Pugh teamed with Brendan Jayaprakash, ranked No. 12 nationally as a pair, to secure a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles, posting a 6-4 victory over Flagler and a 6-3 victory over North Georgia.

With his performance, Pugh improved to a perfect 14-0 record in singles play and 12-1 in doubles this season, continuing to anchor Lander at the top of the lineup.

Pugh and the Bearcats will return to action this weekend as they host Middle Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference matchup Saturday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center for Senior Day.
