Lander Dominates Georgia Southwestern in 7-0 Sweep at Home

GREENWOOD - The Lander women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Friday afternoon, sweeping Georgia Southwestern 7-0 at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center to secure its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season.

The Bearcats (8-4, 1-1 PBC) controlled the match from the start, claiming the doubles point in convincing fashion.

Lander struck first at No. 3 doubles, where Thilda Danielsson and Micaela Pallete cruised to a 6-0 win. The duo of Evelyn Altmaier and Maria Jose Zarza followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point. Sydney Caulder and Ella Sowman capped the sweep with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.

With the early momentum, Lander rolled through singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets.

Paige Williamson was first off the court at No. 6 singles with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory. Pallete followed at No. 5 singles, winning 6-3, 6-0 to extend the lead. Altmaier secured the match-clinching point at No. 2 singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win.

Zarza added another strong performance at the top spot, earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Bailee Martin picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, while Danielsson closed out the sweep at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 result.

The Bearcats will look to carry the momentum in PBC play into a tough road test against No. 15 Flagler on April 7 in St. Augustine, Fla. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m.
