Caulder Secures Point as Lander Falls at No. 15 Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Lander women's tennis team (8-7, 1-4 PBC) fell 6-1 on the road to No. 15 Flagler (11-8, 4-1 PBC) Tuesday morning at the Pollard Tennis Center in Peach Belt Conference action.

Despite a dominant 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles behind Evelyn Altmaier and Maria Jose Zarza, Flagler secured the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 and headed into singles play with the advantage.

In singles, Flagler took control early, winning the first three matches off the court to clinch the overall victory. Elena Ondobo, ranked No. 12 nationally, defeated Altmaier 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to put the Saints ahead 2-0. Sofia Balsera followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Thilda Danielsson at No. 4, and Ornella Lomenzo secured the match-clinching point for Flagler, pushing the score to 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Micaela Pallete at No. 6.

At the top flight, Eryka Kruk, ranked No. 16 nationally, defeated Zarza at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-3. The Saints added another point at No. 5, where Lea Jakic defeated Ella Sowman 6-0, 6-4.

Lander's lone point came at No. 3 singles, where Sydney Caulder battled through a three-set thriller to earn a 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Marie Fairier in the final match of the day.

Lander will have a quick turnaround, traveling to face No. 14 Columbus State on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Columbus, Ga.
