GREENWOOD – Aiming to get back to .500 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium, the Lander women's lacrosse team lost to Gulf South Conference rival Alabama-Huntsville, 14-6.
Now 6-8 with a 2-2 mark in conference play, Lander fell behind 7-2 at halftime and was unable to overcome that deficit to the Chargers (9-7, 4-0).
Kylie Fragala and
Ella Benson scored twice each during the second half as
Caroline Nicholson and
Sophie Warren had first-half goals.
Warren tied for the game-high with four points. She added three assists to her season-long tally to give her 21 on the year – the second-most in the GSC. She also has the second-most points on the Bearcats (33) behind Fragala's 38.
Nicholson extended her point streak to 14 games.
Benson also caused a pair of turnovers and collected two ground balls and three draw controls.
Kaia Morey grabbed three draw controls of her own while fellow defender
Karsyn Rivers nabbed a career-high three caused turnovers.
The Bearcats, who already clinched a spot in the GSC Tournament with last weekend's win, will close out the regular season at home versus Virginia State next Saturday, April 18. The game is set to start at 2 p.m.
