Pugh named PBC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Lander sophomore Harry Pugh has been named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The honor marks Pugh's second weekly award of the season after also earning recognition on Feb. 2 and the third Player of the Week selection of his career.

Pugh continued his dominant spring campaign with a standout performance in No. 22 Lander's 6-1 road victory over North Greenville. Competing at the top of the lineup, the sophomore improved to 7-0 in singles play and 6-0 in doubles this season while dropping just two total games across both matches.

In doubles action, Pugh paired with Ismail ElShafei to earn a decisive 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position over Gabriel Pegoraro and Pavle Markus. He followed with an equally commanding showing in singles, defeating Markus 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to help secure the Bearcats' win.

Pugh is currently ranked No. 13 nationally and No. 2 in the Southeast Region in singles. He is also part of one of the nation's top doubles teams alongside Brendan Jayaprakash, who are ranked No. 2 nationally and No. 1 in the Southeast Region.

No. 22 Lander returns to action Tuesday, March 3 when it travels to face No. 7 Catawba for a top 25 showdown in Salisbury, N.C., with the first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
