Greenwood, SC - For the second semester in a row, Lander's Rocket League team will be playing for the Carolina Collegiate Conference championship.
Lander found themselves against a familiar in-state foe in the semifinals, taking on the University of South Carolina for the 4th time this year in Rocket League. In game 1, Lander came out swinging with a 5-2 win to set the tempo, but a physical showing in game 2 by USC tied the series up at 1-1.
Game 3 was one for the ages, with Lander taking a 4-0 lead before USC clawed back to cut the deficit to 1 with under a minute to play. Lander held on to regain the series advantage.
Game 4 saw Lander turn up the pressure, outpacing the Gamecocks with 12 shots and 5 assists on all 5 goals to secure the victory, 5-2.Â
Game 5 was The
Carson Medlin Show, scoring 5 goals, with 3 assists by
Cook Jordan and 2 more from
Joel Guillen en route to a 7-1 victory and punching their ticket to play in the championship match. "I was feeling myself, shots were just falling" Medlin said after the series. Medlin had 14 goals on the night, USC as a team had 12.
Lander will await their opponent in the championship on March 31st with UNC Charlotte, Univerisity of North Carolina, and Coastal Carolina all fighting for the last spot. This marks the 13th tournament conference championship appearance for Lander in the last 3 years under Head Coach
