Lander Falls to No. 9 North Greenville

GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Lander baseball team fell behind 11-0 early and could not overcome the deficit, falling 14-4 to No. 9 North Greenville on Tuesday evening at Dolny Stadium.

The Trailblazers, who already led 1-0 after the first inning, broke the game open with a six-run second before a grand slam in the fifth pushed Lander to its largest deficit of the season.

Mason Salisbury and Cooper Backman put Lander on the board with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, respectively. Zach Cowart later added an RBI groundout to pull the Bearcats within eight, but two more runs in the seventh put the game out of reach.

Collin Sweeney added his first home run in a Bearcat uniform in the eighth inning, but it was not enough as North Greenville secured the run-rule victory.

Lander returns to the road this weekend for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series at Columbus State. The series begins Friday at 6 p.m. at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
