GREENWOOD – Lander women's lacrosse fell behind by six goals over the first 20 minutes of this evening's game versus No. 7 Slippery Rock and couldn't overcome the deficit in a 9-4 loss.
Kylie Fragala scored twice for the third consecutive game.
Caroline Nicholson and
Emelia Tippett netted the other pair for the 4-5 Bearcats.
The game was a testy one at times, featuring 12 cards.
Fragala put an end to SRU's game-opening run with six minutes left in the first half on a free-position goal.
Nicholson scored 1:30 into the second half while
Sophie Warren marked the assist – both players have scored a point in every game this season.
Fragala's second came on perhaps an inadvertent redirect of Tippett's pass, but nevertheless counted all the same and made it 8-3 during the fourth quarter.
Tippett made sure to get a goal herself with 4:35 to go after
Kayla Smith cleared the ball and passed it to her deep in SRU territory.
The Bearcats won 9 of 16 draw controls today and freshman
Emersin Clamp made 10 saves in her first career start.
Lander has a week to prepare for its first Gulf South Conference matchup of the season at Lee next Sunday, March 22 at 1 p.m.
