Shively, Martin Sweep Conference Carolinas Weekly Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Conference Carolinas announced its weekly awards Tuesday, with Lander University juniors Ashlyn Shively and Cayla Martin sweeping the acrobatics and tumbling honors. Shively was named Athlete of the Week, while Martin earned Specialist of the Week recognition.

Shively competed in multiple events for the Bearcats and delivered several key scores against No. 11 Saint Leo University. She opened the meet with strong marks in the compulsory portion, scoring 9.15 in compulsory acro, 9.45 in compulsory pyramid, and 9.75 in compulsory toss.

During the acro event, Shively helped Lander post a 9.65 out of 10 in the five-element heat and an 8.65 out of 9.85 in the six-element heat. She also contributed to three strong pyramid scores, including 9.35 out of 9.8, 9.5 out of 10, and 9.65 out of 10 across the event's three heats.

Shively made a key impact in the toss event, helping the Bearcats record a 9.7 out of 9.9 in the opening heat. Lander's score outpaced the 11th-ranked Saint Leo's 8.75 in the same heat, allowing the Bearcats to cut nearly a full point from the Lions' lead.

Martin earned Specialist of the Week honors after competing in the toss event, marking the first time in her career she performed in two toss heats in the same meet.

The junior scored 8.95 out of 9.4 in the duo toss heat and followed with a 9.2 out of 9.4 in the open toss heat, helping lead the Bearcats' effort in the event.

Lander returns to action Saturday, March 14, when the Bearcats travel to face the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
